Tara K Bartolec
Tara Bartolec completed her PhD at UNSW in 2022 with Prof. Marc Wilkins, developing large-scale cross-linking mass spectrometry (XL-MS) approaches to map, assess and monitor protein structure, protein-protein interactions, and function at proteome scale. Since 2023, she has been working between the groups of Dr. Mikhail Savitski (functional proteomics) and Dr. Nassos Typas (systems microbiology) at the European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL) in Heidelberg, Germany, supported by an EIPOD-LinC Fellowship and IBTT Transition-To-Independence Grant. Tara is broadly interested in exploring the use of proteomics to decipher cryptic gene function, particularly in the diverse and ancient molecular arms race between bacteriophages and their bacterial hosts. To this end, she has developed and applied mass spectrometry approaches to study the dynamics and function of phage-mediated post-translational modifications, for example protein phosphorylation and ADP-ribosylation.
